Can You Hear It?

Can You Hear It?

My Life holds a clock I cannot see

But I know it is there.

I can hear it, ticking away

Constantly reminding me that This is not forever

My time is running out

Mostly, I do not think about it

Lost in the moment, I forget it is there

Then there are those times where I sit in bed at night

Unable to fall asleep because the thought that I might not wake up

is too frightening.

As life continues, I stop caring about my clock

So what? Life is temporary

Get over it

Graduation, college, marriage, children,

All happens without thinking about my invisible clock.

Suddenly, I am fifty,

and in the blink of an eye,

I am alone,

with only the ticking clock to keep me company.

Twenty years later, I realize that time is my best friend.

Now I am old,

I have lived a good life,

Owned the stage,

I cannot ask for more.

Yet I might continue living for many more years.

That’s the funny thing about Life,

You never know when it-
