Cancer

I never thought you would come
I never thought you would take anyone
away.
Until a phone call one day
i was young but not dumb
and we couldn't just run
run away from the words being said
cancer.
You struck us with fear
attacking someone we loved so dear
I still remember my mom's face
I was angry,
I was mad.
Cancer.
The biggest bully around
knocking so many people down
punching in the lungs, breast, or brain
taking so many people away.
You don't like strong fights
So you make them weak.
You took my grandpa away
not because he died
but because he died inside
he was so drained
he was never the same
he couldn't fight that last day
so here I am
you made me see
how strong I can be
you have taken the last of them
I will do my best to help the rest win
and you will be defeated.
