The Candle

The Candle

I see the flicker of life before me.

The tainted flame burns brightly in my eyes.

Yet darkness keeps me from obtaining it.

Again and again, I grab for the glow.

But the darkness is strong and holds me back.

Weak and foolish it antagonizes.

The more I try, the weaker I become.

The flame has been in reach all of my life.

Inches away from my fingertips touch.

The strength I have though can’t break the darkness.

And so for eternity I stare.

Dreaming one day I’ll have the light beside me.
