Candle
I was given life when we touched,
A reaching hand towards a glowing light.
Now my keeper can see,
As can I with utter delight.
On my pedestal I look upon many,
Crying and moaning is all I hear.
I dance amongst the breaths,
Of grief, anger and fear.
Let me be your guide in the dark,
Your sanctity from the world.
Pass me around like a gift,
A treasure to be unfurled.
A plethora of emotions make me flicker,
But as time goes by I make a wall.
Protection for my short life,
A destined death to befall.
The ground rumbles beneath my pedestal,
Sounds of agony and curses are spoken.
My sight is limited to my wall and skylight,
Oh Apollo, where have I awoken?
Pounding doors and pounding hearts,
The floor creaks and whispers hush.
I am their only glint of hope,
Without me won’t it all flush?
A crash brings voices,
Commanding tones and happy cheers.
I have served my purpose,
To be the hope against the fear.
I am not their only hero.
Rose on this grand pedestal.
But I am still the very hero,
That is every bit credible.
My keeper peers close to my wall,
The time has come without a doubt.
One last laugh to praise the victory of it all,
What do I do now that my flame is blown out?
