Candles
A giggle escapes as I opened your note,
All these inside jokes and memories awoke
Warmth spreads as I read what you wrote
The wick of a candle kindled with a puff of smoke
Before, with another, all that I felt
Was the bare minimum of content
Too exhausted with him, I wept and knelt
In front of my sputtering candle, all spent
Later on, as expected
Another fight broke out
Can't help but feel neglected
Can't help but express and shout
I'm tired of this relationship
I need to leave right now
My heart is ready to give up
I'm sorry I am, but I need to go right now
Those dark times are over
Although my candle is only a stub
You coax warmth and moreover
Lit my candle up again
Because you love me,
and because I love you
