Can't Change Me
he held that gun to my head
the gun was a slur
he thought he had the cure
so numb to that “curing” gun
we are who we are
those who disagree
cover my mouth in tar
stop me from speaking because don’t say gay
we’ll give the new generation the impression
that being gay is not okay
expectations
expectations
what are my relations
if my relations are love and hate
i’m sick of writing
i want to start fighting
for the right to fly my rainbow kite
but it collects dust in a tight closet
i’m stuck in the dark
sometimes people bark
all because i’m different
i’m unique
i’m just trying to seek-
out equal rights
but then they cry equal fights
the spotlight’s on me
i’m afraid of getting caught with the key
to that closet we’re all so afraid of leaving
don’t let it be deceiving
my mind is spinning
they won’t stop grinning
it’s getting hard
to keep on continuing
when they keep on winning
they tell us to take our own lives
recording when someone actually tries
somewhere a mama cries
i follow her lead
i wipe my eyes with a rag
i stuff it in my makeup bag
i thought it was a game of tag
but he just called me a-
oh
