Can't Live Without
In complete honesty
I would love to say
That I could not live without my boyfriend
His soft brown hair swimming through my fingers like breezes through branches
But I could
I wish I could say I could not live without my mother
My eternal stalwart, my wellspring of love
I wish I could say
That I could not live without the beauty that brings color to the murmuring grayscale of the everyday
But I could
In this world, souls trudge through endless moons in the name of a beating heart and the will to drink of tomorrow’s sunshine
And to lose the waking dreams that are the ones I love
Would crush me like nothing I know
But I owe it
To all who walk the eons in the name of survival
To live without
I could not live without air, water, food, sleep, and space
The rest are exquisite privileges
That we never think we can live without, until we must
