Can't You See?

I am so sick and tired of hearing those words.
The words that always surround me.
The words that are constantly pushed down my throat.
Can’t you see that they don’t define me?

I should not be defined by the fact that my thighs meet,
or the fact that i am not even close to being a size two.
Can’t you see the consequences from being suffocated by society?

The thoughts of worthlessness swirl in my head and consume my every being.
The constant comparison to the world around me.
The inner battle has left scars as deep as the sea.
Can’t you see the want inside of me?

The want for the world to see there is more inside of me.
The want for the the world to not classify a woman by the size of her jeans,
but by the size of the wake she creates with her mind.
Can’t you see there is more than being merely a carbon copy?

The words come mindlessly from their lips.
The hurt is almost intentional with the standards
and expectations they rattle off.
The countless number of starving girls
trying to mold themselves to an unrealistic image.
Can’t you see you aren’t defined by all of that?
