Canvas that couldn't be dyed any color

At many angles I'm less than perfect,

but all the trouble was more than worth it.

Spending elementary school in the principle's office

to fix an attitude that couldn't be tamed

everyone in that office knew me by name

no matter the punishment I just stayed the same.

Teachers said I would fail, and eventually go sour

parents took me to the doctor to talk for an hour

I just wanted entertainment and fun

I had no interest in the prescriptions they wanted to put me on

The classes and teachers could'nt catch my interest

jokes and disruptions were more on the funlist.

Walked into middle school with a clean slate

My bad behaviors started to escalate.

It was just so tough, trying to be accepted

I had no talent or skills to earn attention

So trouble was my escape from the isolation

The energy vented was rewarded with a wrist slap

Eventually in high school I seemed to snap out of it

And my attitude of never being swayed gave me confidence

No matter the struggle or the challenge I face

I can deal with the stress because I learned from mistakes

My resistance to authority at first looked like my greatest fault

But I surprised everyone and fed them a mental grain of salt

Now I'm a scientist with a direction and purpose

With the energy I used to get into trouble, my hidden talent and colors surfaced
