The Capability of Our Color
Black is exquisite
Screech it loud
Black is unique
Make your voices be heard
Black is exquisite
“Dirty, loud, ruthless, slaves”
All the names used to describe a colored Individual
Black is exquisite
We’re looked down upon as useless
And never as thoughtful
We’re told to fit in but never to stand out
Underestimated by the forces of racism
At times, our rights have been stripped
Black is exquisite
They called us “colored” because of our dark skin tone
Dark as the night yet smooth as the stem of a young palm
Our color has been taken for granted
Badly injured, spit on; our color has been disrespected
Black is exquisite
Dr. King, Rosa Parks, Malcolm X
These leaders fought
Relentlessly
For our rights to be earned
Black is exquisite
When we’re cold, we shine
When we’re hot, we shine
When we’re killed, we shine
Defeated and crushed, we still shine
Black is exquisite
Screech it loud
