captain’s log, entry 627

the ocean appears black when the sky goes dark,
and so the water that carries my ship
fades,
like a timeworn ghost. I am steering a vessel
between the worlds, in the space betwixt dimensions.
the stars are above me in the heavens, and below me
reflected in inky bubbled glass.
I am going to fall into the obsidian sky, stripped of gravity, flung into the blackness between the constellations.
the creaking of the timber, and distant growl of thunder
is all that points me
to my compass.
