Car Keys

My clothes smell like

Rain and gasoline,

A sign that I’ve been

Spending too many nights

Walking alone when I

Should have been

With you.

My yellow rain boots are

Scuffed with tar and

Dirt, reminders of

The times the sidewalk came up

Too quickly beneath my feet

And the puddles were

Too deep.

I keep my car keys

In my pocket,

because I've

never been good with

Commitment.
