Cardboard

Watch your step along the cardboard pathway

For what it leads to, no one can be sure;

All that is sure is that there is no stay.

Nothing is set, at the end of the day

Though unfixed, it draws you with its allure

Watch your step along the cardboard pathway.

Even the toughest  men have had no say

The indifference of it has no cure

All that is sure is that there is no stay.

The cards are not set, the game is gray,

It is unclear and above all impure

Watch your step along the cardboard pathway.

There is but one thing I’d like to relay

Now, at the end of this long winded tour

All that is sure is that there is no stay.

As if rolling with the warm winds of May

Taken back to the days of you and yore

Watch your step along the cardboard pathway

All that is sure is that there is no stay.
