Casa

Clink clink clink

Goes her keys on our front door.

Gentle kisses on my cheek.

Her sandpaper hands hold face

And I am eye to eye with Home.

“I love you too, sweet dreams.”

When the night escapes our home becomes still as I wake.

Home left to work

Where she cleans other peoples homes.

They don’t ask her too many questions because her tan skin and heavy accent say it all.

Tik tik tik

Goes the clock.

Brutal cat hairs rest on her eyes and face.

Her sandpaper hands hold her shirt above her nose and sneeze profusely.

And she is eye to eye with discomfort

“I'll be home soon, love you”

All in the name of an idea, a concept, a theory:

The American Dream.
