Castaway

What is the one thing I wouldn't be able to live without?
Some people say without one particular person, without music, without money

I can only laugh at their attempts to explain need
In a society so advanced all about greed
Alone on a deserted Island
So dry with particles of sand
Here's what I need you to understand
There’s only so much one person can withstand

As their mouth begin to beg for water
As their skin begin to alter, cracking beneath the rays of the sun
Survival thoughts screaming overcome, overcome, overcome

At the last attempts of survival
When I know my death is final
After I make peace with denial

I won't miss a song that I once heard
I won't miss just one person I preferred
I think all of that is absurd

It's so unrealistic to want one thing.
But if I were to choose it wouldn't be a person a place or even a thing
It would be a concept.
I guess you can say that's a thing. An intangible thing.
It's a concept that gives us the urge to smile at a stranger passerby
It's a concept that makes it so hard to say goodbye

I can't live without love.
I can't live without agape
I can't live without phileo
I can't live without storge
I can't live without eros.

Love is what made my parents smile at each other when they were just strangers
And then they began to change their behaviors
Seeing more of each other like they were neighbors
They got married despite the labor

See when ur alone
And your body is poking out bones
You can only think of home
You keep wishing you had a cellphone
To call your loved ones

Whether it was romance or bromance
Whether it was family or facility
It was a type of love
And we all can never get enough

Ask the teenagers who try so hard to make friends
They wear these shoes or those clothes to follow tends

Ask the young adult in the bar
Trying to spit some bars
To get the girl in his car

Ask the adult who pulls out a ring
Promising on one knee to be her everything

Ask the old folk who love to see their grandchildren
Making them smile even when their joints stiffen

All I need is love
Love is what makes me wanna thrive
Love is what keeps me alive
