The Castaways

    The Castaways
They say our minds are spoiled
And our thinking is the worst
They tell us to believe in God
but they don't tell us why
They tell us to hold it together
Paint a smile on our face
They tell us to just be happy
And that life is great
They tell us that we should do our best
Then tell us to do better
They tell us to love ourselves
But they never taught how to love
We are soldiers in a war that started a long time ago
Passed on generation to generation
Making each like clones
Where is our individuality
Where is ourselves
They put us in boxes
Black
White
Straight
Gay
And the castaways
The ones that don't settle
The ones that fight for what they believe and not what they are told
We aren't like them
They try to fit us in someplace that is much too small
And they get angry when we fight back
When we demand to be treated differently
We are the strangers
The ones who are labeled crazy and not good enough
We are the ones that changed
They think of us as a mutation
When all we are is people like them
We can not be forced into a box
We can't be demanded to change
They tell us you're just a stupid child
What do you know
We are the generation that is not afraid to be different
We are much better than what they told us
Deep inside of ourselves we are something more
We are not shells waiting to be stuffed
We are the Reds, oranges, yellows, greens, blues, and violets
We are the rainbows that can't be contained
We shouldn't be denied anything less
We are not a disgrace
We are the foot loops
disguised as Cheerios
To hide that fact that difference is okay
We are the misfits
The fighters
We are the tear stains on everyone's cheek
We are the ones that didn't have a silver platter handed to us
We fought
We shed blood for what we believe
And you still won
We are everything that difference means
We are not statistics in this awful game that you call life
Torn from the normalities of society
We are the prom queens in black dresses
With converse and neon tresses
WE ARE BEAUTIFUL AND WE ARE LOUD
