Cat and Mouse
They call me the “Energizer Bunny”.
I’m always laughing, shouting, meeting, and greeting.
Always waiting for the perfect time to make someone laugh,
Or to say the right thing when they're about to cry.
I talk a lot,
But it turns out,
I don't say very much at all.
The lion inside of me wants to roar from the rooftops.
So sometimes the mouse that they know so well,
Lets out a little squeak,
To remind them that I’m still here.
It’s not always a good idea to remind the predator that the prey is still around.
They always attack with freshly sharpened claws,
Dissecting my words like their afternoon snack.
The wounds may heal over,
But the scars always remain.
They are used to the girl who makes a lot of noise
Without ever using her voice
So it scares them to hear what I have to say
Because all those years ago
They taught me to hold it all in
That it was better to be funny
Than to be real
But jokes on them.
Just because
I've waited so long to speak my mind,
Doesn't mean
I don't have a mind to speak with.
Who's the prey now?
