Catch & Release
I
am caught up in that pond.
The memory of the moss.
The disquietude of the cattails.
A shudder of scales.
I
am caught up in that web.
The memory of the dew.
The shimmer of morning sun.
A fine fishing line.
I
am caught among the lupine.
The memory of the hills.
The choreography of the breeze.
A delicate reeling.
I
am caught amid the oaks.
The memory of the wind.
Quiet currents.
A sail of forgetfulness.
I
am caught by time.
Swept in its bluster.
Racing age.
Older.
I
am caught in anxiety.
Controlled by numbers.
Counting worth.
Exhausted.
I
am caught for stress.
Reeled by doubts.
Judging futures.
Precarious.
I
am stripped with worry.
Corroded by expectations.
Demanding better.
Vulnerable.
I
am wading far from shore.
Paddling back.
Navigating old winds.
A broken compass.
There
is a current back.
A thick sail to times past.
Happier.
But I
am not done with the murk.
There are voices.
Of stranded people.
Denied human liberties.
And I
will release them of their bonds.
And I
will balance the scales again.
And I
see only one path to them.
And I
See my struggle through dark
As the flame to give them light.
So I
release the ceaseless worry.
Cast away the nagging doubt.
A new fish at the line is tugging.
And I
dig the oars a little deeper.
And I
strain a little harder.
And I
propel a little further
Ever forward.
Hope
&
Release.
