Catcher

They say I need to pull my act together

But I am broken

These cigarettes I smoke don't help me forget it

Together is a foreign word

Only thing that goes together; me and loneliness

Person after person won't let me forget it

I want to be like the ducks that fly together to find warmth in the winter

These drinks I knock back don't help me forget it

One person I love is gone, the rest get pushed away

Pain, confusion, and darkness; is that togetherness?

The last line is my favorite part of the poem, because it shows how blinded someone can be by sadness. I wrote this poem after reading Catcher in the Rye, because I can really relate to Holden's sadness.
