A Century in Poems
1910’s
Cruising along in my Model T
Gravel grinding beneath my tires
My best friend riding shotgun
The scent of rubber and freedom wafts into the window
1920’s
Jazz
Lively, Upbeat
Dancing with friends
Anticipation, for the songs
Music
1930's
America reels
Bread lines are full
California calls
Dust Bowl is the final straw
Everyone searches for hope
1940’s
Smoke slowly rises
The day lives in infamy
World War II begins
1950’s
Walking onto the bus just like any other day
Taking my seat just like any other passenger
Desiring justice just like any other person
Fighting for my rights unlike any way I had imagined
Freedom is on the horizon just like I had always hoped for
1960’s
Marched on Washington to fight for civil rights
Always responded to hate with love
Remembered by many for his “I Have a Dream Speech”
Talked about a world where people “Would not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character”
Invited others to speak out against prejudice
Nonviolent leader of America
1970’s
My grandma just bought me a cube
I’d rather be watching the tube
It twists left and right
I’ve been working all night
This Rubiks should be sued!
1980’s
Oh broad shoulders and spandex clad legs
Feathery locks that are only tamed by scrunchies
Tracksuits in the afternoon
Sneakers and a yard wide boombox
Those were the days
1990’s
EE, Clack, Argh Yes! The internet is on!
Oh wait, never mind, someone just picked up the phone.
2000’s
Quite “I” opening
iPod
iPhone
iPad on the horizon
iAmAmazedbyInnovation
2010’s
Jessica sails around the world, the youngest to do such a spectacular thing
Kids step up and do their part
It’s not an ending, but a new beginning
Who knows what’s possible with faith, love, and heart?
