to a certain asylum-seeker

all these miles you travel

all these hours you spend

alone

your family amid the arid fields

left to watch you depart

wondering when you'll reappear

you always do

still you can't deny the opportunity

this land represents

you can't ignore the tales of oasis

it whispers

not now that you've tasted its fruit

found rest in its shade

bathed in its waters

this land is your home

a dream realized

it even lets you speak the language

of your fatherland

there is no pressure to choose one culture

forgetting the other's lessons

values

citizens

this land only asks that you

know refuge in the embrace

of its bosom
