Certainly Not Me

Can't you see?

No, how could you possibly

Clear away the slate

Of selfishness

That clouds your vision

From reality

And blocks all feeling

From your heart.

So you think

She can't understand you

Because why?

She has a disability.

Or is it actually an ability

To block out the meaning

Of that cruel word

That somehow escapes your lips

Despite my explanation

Of how it hurts.

That sign plastered on the brick walls

Of your classrooms

That says,

"Did I just hear you say 'Retarded'?"

And suggests that you choose

Another word such as

Illogical.

Dull.

Childish.

Absurd.

Ignorant.

No, that sign does not

Make sense to me.

Why the Hell

Should you replace

One cruel word with another?

Does THAT make sense to you?

It certainly does not

Make sense to me.
