Chaco Canyon- A Place Of (a Native American poem)
Chaco Canyon, a place of question--
Why was this one spot chosen?
Was it sought out specifically? Or just randomly picked?
No one really knows.
Was it for the vast space of land?
The wide place that stretched fro a long ways?
Was it for all the mesas that surround the area?
Maybe...
Was it for the peacefulness and calm of the land? Maybe.
We don't know for sure.
We have so many questions;
Many don't have a specific answer.
But, one thing is for sure,
Our ancestors were very wise.
For Chaco seems like the perfect place to be chosen
Either way.
Chaco, a place of sacredness and peacefulness--
A place of complete quietness and clamness all around you,
You can feel this as you walk around.
You can see the way the rocks turn from a deep red
To a light bronze.
As you stand there,
You can see mesas all around you, surrounding you.
You can see the pictures on the rock's face,
That tell you certain meanings and stories.
You could feel the way it might have been--
Back then.
The laughter of the children as they played,
The talking and laughing of the women as they worked.
You can feel the powerfulness from their ceremonies.
The humbleness and unity between them.
Chaco, a place of our ancestors--
A place that is so sacred to us all.
Why did they leave?
We don't know why they left.
They probably felt their calling at Chaco was complete.
That they felt that they could leave.
So, eventually and gradually they left.
Leaving behind their legacy...
Chaco- A place and people that will never be forgotten.
