Chain Breaker

A man

A friend

A smiling face

Everywhere he walks

The light seems so much brighter

He doesn’t notice, but others do

The warm welcome he gives them

Breaks their solemn chains

The chains that force them

To accept a dark reality

A reality where there is

Fear

Discomfort

Darkness

These chains force them

To believe they are nothing but withered husks

Doomed to be stomped under the foot of man

Doomed to live a life without the sweet taste of

Affection or friendship

But they see

This man

This friend

This smiling face

And suddenly their dark reality is pierced

A hand reaches down to break the chains

Now they begin to stand

And feel the great euphoria of freedom

This happened when they saw him

A man

A friend

A smiling face
