Chains
My chains are often unseen
And, when seen, misunderstood
And judged as if seen
In entirety.
I do not need you
To hold me back
Or carefully watch
My every step.
My chains are not
Tight as you think;
I have breath enough
To cry.
Though once you were
A haven for me-
A safe and quiet
Place,
Now, when I see
Your catlike eyes
A chill runs down
My spine.
You are my chains
I drag with me.
Now, let me leave
Them all behind.
