chains

I'll sit here
Arms locked
Chained to
Death's chair
So many before
I am not
The last
Pleading
For me
But why?
Let me die
I deserve
To die
The gavel
Strikes
I jump
"Clean"
I am free
Chains
Unlocked
I rub
My wrists
Stumble out
Sunshine
Glaring
Crowds
Cheering
I am
Free!
I run
And jump
But then
Wake up
Inside my cell
Once more
Freedom
Is only
A dream.
