Chains

Tired of being put down and isolated?

Speak your mind

Can’t muster up enough strength to end it?

The words on the tip of your tongue

Fighting behind your faux smile

Kicking and screaming to be let out

Tired of being used and neglected?

Speak your mind

Fighting with yourself

Thinking, wondering

Is this how it will always be?

The chains seem to hold on strong

Tightening with each twist and pull of your lip

Can you no longer hold on?

Hold on to that submissive role?

Abide by rules put in place by your mind?

 Tell yourself

Let go

Be free

But how could this be?

Speak your mind.

Like an old weathered book

Pages crumbling with each turn

The chains disintegrate

The words begin to form

No longer can it be held in

Quarrel, scream, cry

Just as long as you speak your mind.
