Chains Be Broken
I'm chained to this chain.
And I'm considered to be in a gang because I'm black.
And they're all prejudice no matter how I act.
Knockledge, Skill, and Determination I all encompass.
But they hold us back and chain us all together.
The weather is sunny, but the world is always dark.
We are all equal, but people don't get this part.
What do we have to do to get some respect?
We write, we sing, we create, but they just hang us by our necks.
Ropes tied tightly and this nation takes it lightly.
We are people there's no black or white me.
But I'm chained to this chain.
Working in fields, in the hot dirt, mining.
And this stripped uniform or my skin doesn't define me.
Time has refined me, I hope it refines you.
Have you judged today?
How would you feel if you were treated this way?
Treated unequal by your own people.
