The Challenge
I am a Russian Jew girl
By definition I’m a stingy drunk whore
and being human, I assume that I’m like scum
for there’s nothing new under the sun.
People killing and lying and cheating and raping;
All those crying and bleeding - there’s no escaping
the pain that we’re born in remains.
Through life we with hurtful words and sticks and stones sustain the soulless pit inside of us -
attempting to fill an empty void, finding only disdain.
Our parents attempted to save us from joining their fate
by teaching us the Golden Rule is the gate to fulfillment
It will give us the peace we’re craving.
But their actions engraving a chokecherry tree on our backs
They say one thing but in their animation they:
Walk and get walked on
Stomp and get stomped on
Stab and get stabbed in the humanity they chose to embrace
hypocritically forgetting the race to stop the waste
that from and into the bottomless void that is the soul.
And then weep at night for the monster they created;
Hitler had a mother, too.
And then he conquered his brothers with the freedom he was given
he took it away.
He allowed the Angel of Death to see how much a mother could take
before she stopped being a mother and let the mutant shock her children
while she watched them scream and thought
“Glad that’s not me.”
We give each other freedoms and then leave them there to rot
because being human is a curse that unbought would wreak destruction
but the question must be asked;
Is it worse?
Would it be worse if we were forced to silence; our freedoms removed?
Or is the action of Westboro Baptist Church somehow a distraction
from the interaction of the dissatisfaction without the reaction they attain?
A wise person once told me;
“If you don’t have anything nice to say
Don’t say anything at all.”
But we do; we play with each other’s emotions like with a ball;
Kicking and throwing
Touching all over
finding a soft spot and destroying.
Calvin and Hobbes - a tiger and boy -
Have more freedom than some people know.
Hobbes sent Calvin a secret letter with an insult
And Calvin thought better of his toy tiger friend
Didn’t suspect
And this went on and on and on
And we realized that the anger that Calvin expressed
was at himself.
But his humanity kept him from seeing
because psychologists say we only start understanding at 12.
But understanding what?
That who we are is never enough;
That being human does not bring trust
That the rust on our hearts
Just shoves us down and down and down.
The disgust with humanity and the flaw
should be sufficient for some emotion to draw.
That is my challenge.
