Chance
If light implies darkness
and mind implies body;
shouldn’t thought imply action
and he imply she?
Though opposite star-cross'd lovers be
These elements must exist in harmony
Though opposite in opposition not,
Together, with balance, must each be sought.
Thus, it is the same with life and chance
To face, with courage, death's untimely dance.
Imagine the ability to control our dreams
And dream, in a night, a life--
To lay with eyes closed in Lethe’s unmindfulness
And dream of lifetimes lived without strife
In this universe we become the god
And we determine what is and what is not.
Nothing would be impossible, we would have it all!
Isn’t that what we want, complete control?
One week would be seven lives!
What do you suppose, then, the mind would contrive?
“What would it be like to dream without knowing
Of every little detail and every small nuance?
Say, wouldn’t it be nice to leave life
(No, our dreams!) up to chance?”
So with greater boldness we’d adventure
And instead of witholding, give control back to nature
Slowly but surely, we’d realize the joy and woe
Of the ability to simply not know
And eventually we would dream precisely the how
Of where we are exactly, right here and right now.
