Chance

Hundreds of thousands of shells

Days on end

Are they simply shells to demoralize and maim?

If so, then thats a few thousand chances

For a lucky shell

To pulp your body

A prelude to an assault?

Then add hundreds of stray bullets

Seeking a lucky strike

Maybe the shells will contain gas

The wind will decide your destiny

This Great War is made of chances

Strokes of luck or ill fortune

And fate is a cruel thing

Most of my stuff is inspired by some of the very somber anti-war poems written after WW1. Others can be on a whim or based off fictional works.
