Change.

Change is what we need

In this divided world.

Where it is not acceptable

To be oneself.

Conformity is condemned

By the majority.

But it is the majority.

Individuality is championed

In speech.

But ostrasized

In society.

Cafeteria lunch

Thrown across the room

At the Iraqi girl

Who knows no English.

The one that now writes

Some of the best essays in class.

And sits at the computer.

Writing this poem.

She has changed.

But nobody else really has.

Change is what we need

In this divided world.
