(poems go here) See when I think too much is when it happened, When I close my ears to allow my mind to actually hear is when it happens. See I don’t want Dr. King, and Malcolm X to roll over in their grave at me. So when I think too much is when it happened, See I’m one of the few in my generation that won’t fall for anything and will be something. But I go to blade wear these young boys wear their pants hangin’ halfway off their behind, See the problem with that is you don’t know your history, See if you actually knew your history you would know that in jail saggin’ your pants shows that you are a little feminine but ok im not judging you. And when you think about it if you spell the word saggin’ backwards it actually spells niggas. So what are you? A nigga, see the white man created the word nigga from the deviation of the word Negro, meaning black in Spanish, but you wouldn’t know that because you’re not Latino. But when I think too much is when it happens. And these boys will wait 8 hours for a pair of shoes that they will only wear one week, but not sit down and take a 5 hour test to advance themselves educationally. When I take the music out is when it happens. The it that I am referring to is change I hold my fist up for pride Not black pride, but for power Not for black power, Because I was always taught that there was only one race, the human race, So I hold my fist up for the advancement of the human race. The it that is referred to is the change from the stereotype. See Ms. Rosa sat on the front of the bus to create change, but I find myself seeing more blacks sitting in the back of the bus because its “cool.” See first we were monkeys, and whores, and slaves, but know that we’ve “made it” We cant able to see where we came from. So when it happens let me know or rather don’t because im tired of waiting.

As a poet, I love your style -- it's simultaneously conversational and rhythmic.

As a historian, this is one of the best-articulated reasons I've heard for knowing your history.
