Change

I’m not trying to sound like Barack

But I feel like I’m caught.

Waiting to be taught so better opportunities will knock

Because I want to no longer feel locked

I’m talking about change

To be free from the rein learn to reign and be rained with the feeling of being sane

Dear time, how long will you wait

Before you let me cross that stage?

Counting down the months and days that remain

Before I can leave this atrocious cage, before I can leave this horrible place!

Tired of this life so I’m hoping it’s a phase that can be fixed with change

Because I’m tired of only change being in my pocket

Time is taking away my hope so I’m trying to lock it

The only thing that I see, the only thing that I breathe is that acceptance letter from university.

Already visualizing those A’s, that stage, the diploma and degree I’ll take, the stereotypes I’ll kill like Cain if you're Abel ameliorate.

Can’t you see it? For Christ sake, I’m talking about change!

Because that’s what I need

You don’t understand, I’m not free

Every day is the same thing

“Girl, go clean and take some of the responsibility that partially belongs to me”

I’ll gladly pay that application fee

Because I know what it means

And I have what it takes

But I’ll edgily wait for change to open its gates.
