Change

Change is a necessary part of being human.
From regenerating cells to acquiring a taste for cumin

After years of hating the stuff and kindly rejecting offers

Of potatoes, chicken, and soups with all kinds of sauces

Whose recipes had, without it, been “Missing something

To turn untouched leftovers into a third and fourth serving

At the dinner table. I'm not wasting more of my days—

This outdated cookbook needs something: a change.”

From a pinch of a spice to a brand new Amendment,

We as a population have no reason to be offended

By the screams of young people for big or small differences.

Calling them disrespectful won't alter their messages.

They understand you're trying not to brand yourself a hatemonger,

But in comparison to them, you've been and will be in charge only a bit longer.

They are your future, and they demand true abolition

of minorities and women, of everyone but the white men under a certain religion

Who get applauded when they hire someone else to wordily piece together

Everything we've been saying since the beginning of forever—

“These people” 'who won't be heard without me talking for them'

“Need our help!” because for some strange reason we have laws banning abortion.

We have cops profiling and basing drug use on race minorities

Even if statistics show otherwise; these are our priorities:

Whiteness, the economy, and freedom to kill.

But even if the change comes slowly, you best believe it will.
