Change is Good (Free Verse)

Since my childhood I have gone through many of rough experiences,

I had back surgery in 9th grade which led to me losing my dream of playing football,

it also led to me losing mobility, flexibility, and time in school,

my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer in 7th grade,

I didnt know how to handle it and became filled with sorrow.

Both these experiences taught me how to handle life's challenges,

now as i'm older, I realize it had a good outcome,

I got a chance to speak to other kids with back surgery,

and got to help others through tough life experiences.

I see the world as a different place now,

I'm more selfless, wise, happy, and interested in more things,

I want to be a Civil engineer, go to college at Chatt State, and write poems in my freetime,

I'm still interested in football and watch it often even though I can't play,

life has shown me from my childhood how to enjoy the good and the bad,

I'm not a kid anymore and with this scholarship, I can become a successful adult,

and show others that a tough life can still give you great things.
