A Change in Heart

Viewing the happiness of others makes a person crave the happiness themselves

I remember late nights in bed, staring at the dark, desolate ceiling wondering when I could be myself

Keeping in my feelings for other guys in my grade

Holding the stress on my back like Atlas holding the world on his shoulders

The summer in which I explored my sexuality was the summer in which I found myself

I remember the bright shining colors and the acceptance I received from my friends that night

I now roam our school hallways more out there to the student body than usual

I hear I’m “so different” from the Brandon I was last school year and I realize I am

I’m more brave when it comes to expressing my sexuality and I’m more comfortable with conversations about same sex relationships

I feel like a spring flower fresh from the transitional bloom expressing my beautiful characteristics within myself

I’ve had a change of heart and change of expression that have brought me strength today I have never felt before
