Change in Iraq

I grew up in Iraq dreaming of a career in medicine.

I wanted to help heal others and to care for them through their pain.

In high school, my biggest intellectual interest has been biology because I learned about all the parts of human body and its functions, confirming my interest in a career in healthcare.

My Internship at UCSD further expanded my interest in healthcare. In this internship, I conducted lab work with a special emphasis on antibiotics and phage titering in order to enhance the effectiveness of antibiotic treatments. This internship taught me that I enjoyed collaborating with people in order to solve problems and assist in the advancement of scientific knowledge. As of now, I want to pursue a medical career. I want to become a physician’s assistant because I love helping people in their time of need. For many years in Iraq my ability to challenge myself academically was limited and my dreams of a career in medicine seemed hopeless due to the religious persecution many catholics faced. Here in the United States I believe my dreams can come true. I have taken as many AP and Honors classes as possible to prepare myself and I excel in math and the sciences.  I am looking forward to continuing to follow my love for learning and academics in college. I will attend college because college is the only way I will learn to be independent, learn lifelong skills, and have a guaranteed future with my degree.
