Change One Thing
The world is full of people
Who cannot afford time
It is a commodity
A priceless piece of mind
We are constrained and beaten
To the minutes and the hours
And the seconds and the days
We're caught up in irrelevance
A struggle that, in the end, will make no difference
I live in the city that never sleeps
With red eyes and deadlines
I struggle to keep
My eyes open when I can
But everything is blurry
Moving too fast, but often it slows
It seems that no one has a New York minute
To ask how time flows
It's like everything is important, next to everyone else's goals
I go to a school
Where teachers and students
Do not believe in lying down in a bed
For a decent 8 hours, comatose and in a trance
Dreaming is illegal
Drinking coffee sets you free
And caffeine pills and energy drinks which make your kidneys bleed
Due date, Turnitin.com, too late
Not an IB student or a diploma candidate
If I could change one thing
It would be time itself
Because 24 hours was never enough to help
I hate staying up for assignments
Waiting for my brain to melt
Days, weeks, years and decades
Centuries of pointless charades
I’m tired of it and refuse to be awake
It will take time itself to get my point made
