Changed Unachievably
I wanted to be beautiful for you,
so I learned to walk on toothpick soles.
Still, the horn of a unicorn lay on a different head.
I wanted to be strong for you,
so my shoulders wept.
Yet Atlas still lifts up my feet.
I wanted to be smart for you,
and Socrates took residence in my gums.
But the originality cog was missing.
Yet I was never enough,
not for you,
but by me for you.
Because that’s what a better half does-
encourages you to be your best.
Become the unachievable.
But you’ll never make it.
