Changes Of The Mind
From age 6, she cried at night and
She knew she wasn't the same.
The kids at school reminded her
Each and everyday she showed.
Every time she walked those hallowed
Halls, the voices echoed around her head.
Each whisper and shout of ugly and fat.
Of worthless, unwanted, and disappointing.
And they wonder now, why she can't
Look in the mirror and why she questions
Every compliment, waiting for the backhanded
Comment she's sure will come along.
And she's been lied to and tricked
So many times she's not sure what is
Real and what's just another cruel trick
To try and get her to let her heart go.
So she wishes to make a change in the world
In her own world. She wants to change the
Image in the mirror, the image in her mind.
She works to change what's inside her head.
She can't change the past and the hurt, the
vicious words that still haunt her, and the people
Who, regardless of apologies, mean nothing
But heart aching flashbacks and tears.
But, she knows that if she sets her mind to
it, she can change what she sees in the mirror.
She can change the way that she feels about
Herself, the way she looks, and her past.
That's what I would change. I don't want to
Take down a big bad wolf, try to fix the
Problems that plague society. I want to change
the thoughts I've never been able to escape.
I want to change my own self image, and the
Things that have set up camp and deposited
Their own seeds of negativity in the back of
My mind. Trying to tear me down over again.
