The Character

Who's to say

What part they play

Our story is each our own

You may be the protanginist of your story

Yet the antagonist in all its glory

In the story of a foe

A mailman of no conseguence to me

Is the main character in a tragedy

Yet I would never know

To others I'm the bumbling fool

I'm the exception, not the rule

How I wish they'd care

That I am more than what they see

Not just someone who happened to be

A minor character in their show

I laugh at stupid movie quotes

And when I'm cold I wear three coats

Maybe they do to

I cry at touching cartoon scenes

And spend hours rewashing my favorite pair of jeans

Just so i feel comfortable

I never walk on sidewalk cracks

I'm bad at cards (and also jacks)

And I've never really cared

I lay awake at night sometimes

Remembering cheesy pick-up lines

And I can't help but smile

The oddest things seem to touch my heart

Like a cool breeze when I've been running hard

Yes, it's odd. I know.

Yet all they see

When they look at me

Is the bumbling fool

And I do the same to the mailman...
