The Chase
Everyday we play a game of tag
Yet, I’m always the chaser
Everyday the chase becomes more volatile
Yet, I keep chasing
But it just won’t let me tag it
Maybe It’s too fast or I’m too slow
I just don’t know
In their raspy voice, the old folks attempt to tell me how to catch up with It
”You gotta do this .. You gotta do that and then you’ll get it”
Yet, I find when I do it my own way
Catching it finally comes into my reach
And, oh the joy, I’ll finally feel when I tag it
It’ll be like a kid in the candy store
With all the money in the world
Oh joy , that the world can’t mask
Yet, I can’t even grasp
I tagged it but it’s only a matter of time until
I become the chaser again
Chasing continuously
Some day I’ll look back at the Chase
And finally see its beauty
And how it strengthened my legs
Now I can run anywhere I please
The disquieting, lonely feelings will finally be gone
And I’ll realize that no one could’ve taught me how to tag it
That day, our game of tag will come to a jarring end
No longer will I be a whippersnapper as the old folks say
And I’ll finally get to say
“I found the way, my way!
To keeping this thing that few even get to tag”
The happiness and self love will overtake my heart of pain
And then, this thing called life will be clear skies
