Chasing Life
I have seen Life,
at first glance it was hidden behind its mother’s skirts,
glimpsing the world for the first time.
A simple utterance frightened this life,
rousing it from its lull.
Many years were spent chasing Life,
through the boughs of willow trees,
the fragrance of magnolias,
and past the red browns of fallen leaves.
Perhaps finally this life was caught,
hiding in the pages of a school book.
Love caught it by its hair,
shook it to its core,
and left it forever rustled.
But Life escaped;
fleeing in haste and leaving part of itself behind.
Now Life can be found brushing its fingertips on the dew of roses,
searching for itself,
not in pages,
but in the song of ravens,
broken but beautiful.
