Chasing Sun

I painted the sky with my dreams, Writing them in the open blue; I pulled the clouds down with the weight Of my worries-- Their captivating innocence smothering me As I lay in the grass, Choking on pain. So I made a net of my hopes And I captured the sun To always have my own light. But it leaked out when I thought I was happy, Every time I smiled and forgot my pain. And, scared, it stole away. I took what I wanted-- The beautiful, the comforting-- And used it for my own. And now I’ve chased it away. I captured the sun with a net Made of worries and now It’s gone for good.
