Chasing Time

I’m worried that we’ll waste,

All the green and all the bright,

The flowers with their pedals,

That we will soon ignite.

We’ll suck dry all the thought,

We’ll devour all the grace,

And when we’re left there barren,

There’ll be nothing to replace.

We’ll take what isn’t ours,

We’ll squander all their wealth,

The list isn’t quite full yet,

We’ll add to it your health.

We’ll burn ash into the sunset,

We’ll set fire to the grass,

What’s just one more beauty,

Left to hover in the pass.

The line between fair and selfish,

Parallel to wrong and right,

The straight and narrow journey,

From here seems out of sight.
