Chasing Wonderland

Alice That’s what her name was But who are we to say Was it really Alice Or was it not Lewis Carroll wrote a story There have been movies Musicals Spin-off series But what is Wonderland Is it nothing but a drug induced haze that has us reeling and craving for more Or is it real A world of magical creatures surrounded by the lost hope of tomorrow Or are we in it This war against terror that has us on a roller coaster Promises of peace that always end with someone looking down the barrel of a gun We came to this Wonderland with guns and germs and steel The Mad Hatter March Hare Red Queen Tweedledee and Tweedledum That caterpillar who terrified me while I was entranced by his smoke rings White Queen The Cheshire Cat And then her Alice But what is she truly If not Another lost girl It’s just another fantasy After everything we’ve been through this Wonderland we live in drugs up children with weapons in their hands and makes them kill their families We have a war-torn past with a panic-stricken present and a bloodied future And yet we still seek Wonderland We crave it We hope to increase our chances of finding it with vodka and halogens Behind every depressed child is an axe Off with their head We hold the ax off with medication until it bites the skin and allows blood to taste the cool night air Off with their head We seek something that we can never find This dream we’ve created in our heads Interrogation from the land of the free We all want what we can never have In the end we just have our own dreams But we still crave fantasy Our own perfect world We always will be running after it Almost catching up But never reaching out destination Chasing Wonderland
