Cheers

Here's to the girl with the thin lips and the thick waist,

who sheds tears at home alone but with him there's no trace.

Here's to the boy with the scar on his face and some broken glasses,

who has a mother that thinks he fell at practice not because he's picked on in classes.

Here's to the kids that stay home alone for a party of one on a Friday night,

not because they do it by choice but because they never get an invite.

Here's for the brother that had no chance to survive,

the friend that lived a day without ever telling a lie,

the woman that spoke no English but had too much pride,

the child that had no friends so he made them up in his mind,

the father that drinks too much when it's night,

the young lady that is sitting here just to write.

To write words for the unheard, forgotten, and lost.

To write sentences when few words aren't enough.

To write stories of things no one else dares recall.

To write memories that capture moments a camera cannot.

We can write for fun but I'd rather write for a cause.

Because sometimes things left unsaid are most important of all.
