Cherry Blossom Promises

Promises are fake

They exist to reassure

But aren’t ever real

They are there to lie

They are there to be broken

So why make them?

If you are only going to break them

Not even a carving can make it real

Not even papers signed can make it real

Not even family can make it real

Not even friends can make it real

Not even blood can make it real

They are created

But never kept

They are made

But then broken

So why make them?

If you are just going to break them

Under a cherry blossom tree

Is my promise

No not my promise

Our promise

And yet you broke it

In that one place

You made a promise

No

We made a promise

A pact

Carved in the tree

With an old knife

A pact

Made by blood

And yet you didn’t keep it

So why’d you make it?

If you weren’t going to keep it

Promises aren’t real

They are fake

Under a cherry blossom tree

Lies our promise

One you didn’t keep

One that I plan to keep

Under a cherry blossom tree

Is my promise

Under a cherry blossom tree

Lies my heart

Under a cherry blossom tree

Lies my trust

Under a cherry blossom tree

Lies my dead body

Why’d you make a promise?

When you were just going to break it

Why’d you say you would protect me?

When you killed me

Under a cherry blossom tree

Lies your broken promise
