chewing gum

it's like gum at the bottoms of your shoe
it glues you to the ground
forces you backwards
never moving on
and once you take that step forward
it follows you
it shadows you
it strings it's sticky substance
and festers at your feet
chaining you down
but you can never feel good about taking those steps
that one step forward
until you scrape it off for good
